We all know the importance of stopping to smell the roses and for Southcare Star Livia she takes that to a whole new level.

Walking is her main form of exercise, and she regularly walks around her suburb towards the local park taking in the views and smells of the flowers along the way, with the assistance and company of her Southcare support worker.

But what happens when it’s too hot in Summer or raining in Winter?

“Well, we visit the shops and walk around there!” Livia laughs. “We can find flowers anywhere, and even better because

I can grab a few essentials from the supermarket to take home when I am out.”

Southcare visits Livia twice a week in line with her assessed and approved care needs.

As her daughter Mirna tells us, her mum is very independent at 87 years young and still drives but appreciates the social support, connection and confidence Southcare provides.

“Mum does drive but not far and for longer trips she likes to have someone in the car with her.

“She lives alone since Dad passed away so having the regular connection and activity is a great way for her to stay active both mentally and physically,” Mirna says.

Livia has lived in her large 4×2 bedroom home for 41 years and has no plans to leave.

“Having Southcare visit for companionship and to do a few essential domestic jobs helps Mum and allows her to choose to spend her time doing what she loves which is tending to her flowering plants around her home, many of which she received for her last birthday.”

Stopping to smell the roses and appreciating all of life’s beauty, indeed.
